Sabin 3645; Rodrigues, Bibliotheca Brasiliense, 348. Father Antonio de Barros was born in Lisbon in 1697 and became the Superior of the Jesuits in that town. He died in Lisbon in 1754. "Father Vieyra was most zealous in converting the Indians of Brazil, but was much persecuted by the Portuguese inhabitants for opposing their making slaves of them as fast as they became Christians, which, it appears, they had previously done as a thing of course."
